Allobates insperatus
—
Santa Cecilia Rocket Frog
Also known as:
Unexpected Nurse Frog, Older Brother Nurse Frog
The first three photos here are of the same frog. The fourth photo shows a different frog, an adult male carrying tadpoles on his back.
Allobates insperatus was described in the same paper as Allobates fratisenescus, and some authorities (including the authors of Amphibians of Ecuador (2025)), consider the former to be a junior synonym of the latter. My guide Amanda Quezada identified these as A. insperatus and I'm sticking to that (like the tadpoles stick to the dad's back) until the authorities are all on the same page.
