Ctenosaura palearis
—
Guatemalan Spiny-tailed Iguana
Also known as:
Motagua Spiny-tailed Iguana

We came to the Motagua Valley in search of Guatemalan Beaded Lizards. Unfortunately we failed to see any in the wild, though we did see a couple that had previously been captured and were being kept at a reserve. Our consolation lizard was this very localized iguanid, known only from this valley. We found one adult and one juvenile, both sleeping at night.
Here is a list of all the reptiles and frogs I saw on this trip to Guatemala.
