Epipedobates boulengeri
—
Marbled Poison Frog
Also known as:
Boulenger’s Poison Frog, Boulenger’s Nurse Frog, Marbled Poison-arrow Frog
The taxonomy of this group of frogs is under revision. "Epipedobates boulengeri" has long been considered a species complex, and there have been some recent attempts to untangle it. Some authors have synonymized it with Epipedobates espinosai, whereas others have kept it distinct for now, awaiting further study.
In any case, they are tiny poison frogs, hard to notice in the leaf litter due to their small size and dull dorsal coloration. But they have beautifully mottled bellies, of which they should be proud.
