Epipedobates espinosai
—
Darwin Wallace Poison Frog
Also known as:
Espinosa Poison Frog
We heard many of these little day chirpers, saw two, but only got photos of this one. These Mindo-area frogs were once called Epipedobates darwinwallacei, but recent studies indicate that E. darwinwallacei had near-identical DNA to the earlier recognized species E. espinosai, and thus did not warrant species status. (But the cooler English name of E. darwinwallacei somehow seems to have supplanted the less cool English name of E. espinosai.) Some authors continue to recognize both species, however.
