Inger’s Black-eyed Litter Frog (Leptobrachium ingeri)
I spotted this leaf-litter frog by its reflective eyeshine at night. At the time, I assumed it was the same species as the very similar Leptobrachium abbotti that I had seen earlier, but when I checked my froggy references later I realized that the coloration and pattern marked it as L. ingeri, which prefers somewhat higher elevations than L. abbotti.

My Travelogues and Trip Lists page includes a complete list of the herps I saw in the wild on this trip to Malaysia, as well as a travelogue of the trip.

Inger’s Black-eyed Litter Frog (Leptobrachium ingeri)
I managed to sneak up slowly enough on this frog that it held its high-body ambush position instead of defensively hunkering down as Leptobrachium typically do. I would have liked to get a photo from the front, but when I tried to position my camera that way the frog did finally flatten down.
