Pristimantis achatinus
—
Cachabi Robber Frog
Also known as:
Agate Rainfrog, Pastures Rainfrog
This frog was described and named in 1898, at a time when the reasoning behind newnew names was often left unmentioned. So what was "achatinus" supposed to mean? It's similar enough to the Latin word for "agate" that some herpetologists speculate that it was named for its agate-like color.
This male desperately wants to join such a party.
