Pristimantis kayi

Kay Rainfrog
We had visited a particular lodge mainly in hopes of finding the particularly beautiful Hyloscirtus lindae, whose red-toed style is featured on the cover of Amphibians of Ecuador volume II. We searched for two nights for that species with no luck, though we heard them calling several times. Our consolation prize was lots and lots of three Pristimantis species: P. glandulosus, P. devillei, and this one.
We were at this location for two nights, and on the second night we found dozens more of these little guys and gals. These photos show some of the variation in texture and patterning.
