Pristimantis nyctophylax
—
Watchful Rainfrog
Also known as:
Watchman Rainfrog, Tandapi Robber Frog
According to Amphibians of Ecuador, "nyctophylax" is Greek for "watchman", in reference to these frogs watching the collectors move through the forest at night. Now I want to know the whole story.
The orange sclera around the eyes are a giveaway for this species (though it is more reddish in some regions).
