Pristimantis w-nigrum
—
W Rainfrog
Also known as:
Black-W Rainfrog, Zurucuchu Robber Frog
This species gets its name from a "W"-shaped mark on the frog's back, just behind the head. However, this same mark is shared with many other Pristimantis species (for example, this one). Also, this mark is only prominent on some individuals, and at best only barely visible on some others (such as the one I photographed here). In short, it is a silly name. But at least the name contains a hyphen, which is not something you see very often.
